Hello! Another Saturday and a brand new episode of Attack on Titan! If the first two episodes have been hard and the body count was getting high, this week they diverted to adding some more questions! Yay, we love new questions, don’t we? 😛 The episode starts back with Connie in the now deserted village and a half formed titan on top of his house. We also get an intriguing dialog between Ymir and Christa, but will have to wait a bit longer to get anything properly explained. The Survey Corp are still kept in the dark, but pastor Nick finally gives away a very tiny piece of information!
The episode Southwestward serves more like medium and gives me so many more questions! I felt like they haven’t really confirmed or denied anything yet, most of the scenes felt unfinished and leaving a very strong feel of suspense. The build up will hopefully grant us an explosive next episode! But I think I just expect too much, it Attack On Titan I’m talking about anyway, the masters of giving as little answers as possible!
So back to the beginning of the episode! Connie is seen standing in front of his house looking at the titan. The Survey Corp team asks a lot of questions I was thinking myself as well – how is it there are no survivors? There is no one at all and where have they gone? Also, if titans attacked – where is all the blood, the body parts? If they managed to escape the Titans how did they do that without using the horses? Also why would titans break down houses without any food (khm, people) in them? So this was finally laid out loud and I hope to get some answers soon! Than there was a specific super weird moment – Connie thinks he heard the titan speak to him the words “welcome home”. He can’t decide if he imagined it or really heard it. I think he really heard it and this just stinks so much of some weird foul play! I think they have done something to these people so now random people can change into titans. He also thought for a second that the titan could be his mom transformed. If Eren and Annie could transform, maybe other people can as well?
The conversation between Ymir and Christa made no sense at first, but just watch the full episode! Ymir is one of those strong-willed people who will act tough, but they are actually super soft on the inside and want to protect people they care about. We are hinted that Christa comes from an important family and Ymir in a way confirms that her origin is why she hangs out so much with her! Later in the episode, pastor Nick finally grows a pair and manages to give them at least a tiny little detail – he confesses to Hange, Eren and the group that his church has been monitoring Christa for a while now. For what reason he does not say… Just before this we also get a little bit more knowledge about the hardened titans skin and Henge confirms Armins theory that walls are made from hardened titans skin! This felt like a success, yes, finally at least something confirmed. However, I immediately got a bad feeling about it – Henge will surely have to die soon. She’s just too smart and I bet there are wheels in motion that just won’t let her discover too much too soon!
And another big reveal, though I think everyone suspected this from the start, is that there is no hole in the wall! The two survey parties meet halfway and try to spend the night in the abandoned castle. However the night’s rest is interrupted by a horde of titans around them, attacking the ruins and we get to see the huge, hairy titan again! He calmly climbs the wall and we see him squatting on the top of the wall. I think he is not going there to attack people but to go back to his everyday life. Transform back into human and maybe report back to whoever is leading this messy end of the world?
As Hange reveals and confirms Armins theory that the walls are made of hardened titan skin, she also proposes that Eren changes into titan form and tries to close the hole and fix the wall. Remember, they are not allowed to let the sun touch the titans face in the wall. Levi is again on his more quiet side and doesn’t get involved much until he sort of decides instead of Eren that he just must do this as they have no other options. So I guess we will get to see this done in the next episode or maybe two?
So, as I said before – so many new questions! Also that damn pastor Nick! Why he just won’t spill and stop being such a pain in the ass. I just can’t understand how everyone is so calm around him. Even his betrayal is half-assed! He gave them a tiny clue, but he isn’t doing anything for anyone – not for himself or for the Survey Corp and the people with not telling the truth already! I was half expecting him to be tortured to get the answers, but they haven’t gone that far yet.
Have you already seen the latest episode? Thoughts?
Thanks for reading!
